BEAT OF THE WEEK: The D.O.C. – It’s Funky Enough

The D.O.C. is quite an unsung rap legend. Formerly a ghost writer for NWA, features on their tracks and even get a mention on Nuthin’ but a G Thang. The acapella to It’s Funky Enough has been cut up by multiple turntablists. His story is actually quite tragic too. After releasing his Dr Dre produced debut album in ’89 he was in a car accident where his vocal chords were damaged, therefor ending his rap career. Supposedly, Snoop has been paying for him to get voice coaching and they are even considering televising the vocal chord surgery that may or may not lead to a succesful, overdue, rap career.

Around 10 years ago Foot Patrol was killing it with the trainer selection. Then trainers became even more collectible and every chump was on it. Then I felt Foot Patrol’s selection became a bit diluted and the store eventually closed. Now it is back in full effect (sometime this month) at a new location on Berwick Street.

I’ve always been a Geto Boys fan…mainly a fan of their music but also because they are (as far as I know and please correct me if I’m mistaken) the only crew with a rapping midget. I came across this video today and had to share it – MIDGET ON TOP OF A MOVING CAR WHILST RAPPING!

Now that I spend most of my day working it’s been a while. Aloe Blacc has a real nice and smooth voice. He shot to fame when his biggest hit, I Need a Dollar, was used for HBO’s How to Make it in America. I like him so much that you need to check out some of his covers.
