So today I quit my job and before doing so had the end of this song in my head all day long. Taken straight from The Return of the DJ Vol.1. “I’m leaving, later alligator, boom bye bye, peace see you later, what more can I say, la-later”…

So we all heard about the demise of Jehst and the postman rumours. He has replied to the revelations with a new track and I actually like it. I went off of Jehst when he turned in to an arrogant dick and thought he was better than he was. Then he became a postman due to putting out weak tracks. I’m hoping on the evidence of this track that the experience has humbled him to a degree and his music will be as good as it used to be. I also don’t have to release my smear campaign that I was plotting whilst bored at work – Jehst is my takeaway delivery man, Jehst is my bin man, Jehst is my milk man, Jehst is my Jehova’s witness and so on…

Stunts, Blunts and Hip Hop is one of my top 1o hip hop albums of all time and the vast majority of work that DIamond D has put out there is equally as good. DJ Hedspin has put together a sick mixtape bringing all of this together. Get it for free over from the Eh Team DJs

And here’s an oldie but goodie in regard to the above…

BEAT OF THE WEEK: The Militia – Gang Starr feat. Big Shug & Freddie Foxxx (Pete Rock remix)

How fitting it was that this weekend I came across a record in my collection that I had forgotten and perfectly matched the weeks headlines. As the UN militia began their attack on loyal Gaddafi forces I hoped the troops were listening to some decent music like they used to back in Vietnam. So anyway here it is a nice chilled version of Gang Starr’s Militia. Best verse by a mile is Freddie Foxxx’s.

R.I.P. Nate Dogg and Smiley Culture

Tuesday 15th March was a sad day – we lost two artists. Nobody ever came close to touching Nate Dogg’s smooth chorus vocals. You just knew that when he featured on a track he would give it that cool vibe that he always possessed. I am definitely feeling older these days as more and more artists I like seem to be dropping like flies in the last couple of years.

BEAT OF THE WEEK: Lift Ya Skirt – Dirt McGirt (aka Ol’ Dirty Bastard)

I was in Dragon Bar, Shoreditch, the other night and heard Chris Read drop the remix of Mark Ronson’s Toxic featuring a snippet of Lift Ya Skirt. Decided I needed the original version and it arrived in the post just last night along with a lovely Prince Fatty 7″.
